Tom Dumoulin has impressed on his return to the squad after 420 days. He finished fourth in the first stage of the Tour de l'ain. The Dutch Jumbo-visman from has even taken the sprint in the last few hundred metres for his team-mate, slovenian Primoz Roglic, who was surprised by the Italian Andrea Bagioli just before the finish line.

"We came out in good shape after a long period of training, and it shows," explained Dumoulin. "I had to return a little to my routine today. It was a little strange to fight again for a place in the squad. The final was electric, but it is like skiing, it never forgets. I couldn't imagine a better test.
