Cowboys legend Michael Irvin bullish on Carson Wentz, Eagles

The Eagles impressive 3-0 start combined with a historic first three games of rookie quarterback Carson Wentz's NFL career has turned heads both locally and nationally.

Even Dallas Cowboys Hall of Fame wide receiver and current NFL Network analyst Michael Irvin has already raised the expectations for the Eagles, behind Wentz this season.

"The Philadelphia Eagles being 3-0," Irvin said Sunday morning on NFL GameDay. "They have to be considered the favorite [to win the NFC East] right now."

Offseason pickups having impact

Irvin isn't the first national pundit to pivot on preseason predictions in the NFC East. Last week, ESPN's Mark Schlereth also pegged the Eagles as the team to beat in the division.

"When you watch them," Schlereth said last week. "Especially in that division, they're the best team in the division right now the way they are playing. They're the most consistent team in that division and it's pretty much not close."

In the first three weeks of the season, the Eagles made quick work of the Cleveland Browns in the season opener before toppling the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football in Week 2 and dismantling the high-powered Pittsburgh Steelers at home in Week 3.

The Eagles return from the bye week Sunday in a Week 5 showdown against the Detroit Lions, out to avenge last season's embarrassing blowout defeat on Thanksgiving before heading to Landover, Md. to take on the Washington Redskins in the NFC East opener in Week 6.
