Eagles in 'heavy contract negotiations' with Stephen Tulloch, Adam Schefter says

The Eagles are in 'heavy negotiations' with free agent linebacker and former Detroit Lion Stephen Tulloch, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Saturday evening.

Tulloch was released by the Lions last month, carrying him on the roster through voluntary OTAs and minicamp, despite the 31-year-old opting not to participate in the team's offseason program.

One position where the Eagles seem to lack experience depth is at linebacker. Currently, the Eagles have Jordan Hicks, Nigel Bradham and Mychal Kendricks slated as the starters, but little depth behind them. Najee Goode and Deonte Skinner along with seventh-round draft choice Joe Walker could be in the mix should the Eagles suffer an injury at the position.

If the Eagles sign Tulloch, he could push Goode for the top backup job behind middle linebacker Jordan Hicks, who missed the final eight games of his rookie season with a torn pectoral.

Tulloch, a 10-year-veteran, would bring both a veteran presence and experience in new defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz's scheme.

The fourth-round draft choice of the Tennessee Titans in 2006, Tulloch spent six seasons playing under Schwartz, during which he was named to Pro Football Focus' second-team All-Pro team in 2011.

Tulloch is coming off a 107-tackle, one-sack season in 2015. The NC State product has 941 career tackles and 14.5 career sacks.
