FLORHAM PARK — Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis on Saturday offered his side of the story regarding his altercation during Friday's practice with wide receiver Brandon Marshall.
Marshall took an open-handed swing at Revis during practice, connecting with Revis' shoulder pad. Marshall said he was upset about a couple things, which boiled over and resulted in Marshall going after Revis.
First, Revis popped him in the face earlier in practice, during a one-on-one drill. Marshall also said Revis "baited me" into taking a swing by saying something that Marshall considered inappropriate, immediately before Marshall's swipe.
After Saturday's practice, Revis denied that his contact to Marshall's helmet during the one-on-one drill was an intentional cheap shot.
"It was during the play," Revis said. "At the same time, it's football. Things happen. You might jam, your hand might slip, whatever. You might hit somebody in the head, you might get poked in the eye, you might get your foot stepped on. It's a very physical sport."

Marshall, while explaining why he took a swing at Revis, also acknowledged that this crossed a line. Revis didn't speak with reporters after Friday's practice.
The players angrily trash talked throughout practice. At one point, Marshall referenced Revis' poor game last season against Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins. Revis insisted Saturday that this didn't bug him.
"No," he said. "It's fine, man."
Revis declined to offer specifics when asked about the apparently inappropriate comment he said to Marshall immediately before Marshall hit him in the shoulder.
"No, it's fine," Revis said. "You've got to do more to get under my skin than do that."
It was unclear if this comment was in reference to Revis not caring about Marshall bringing up his struggles against Hopkins.
Revis said he and Marshall are no longer upset at each other. Marshall said Friday that he and Revis are close friends who happen to be extremely competitive.
"Everything is fine, man," Revis said. "We're moving on. I might get into a scrap with another receiver tomorrow. ... We're two very competitive guys. This hasn't been the first time of us getting into it."
During team periods in Saturday's practice, Revis and Marshall matched up one-on-one just once. And it was a running play. Jets coach Todd Bowles said this was simply part of practice, and that he didn't intentionally separate the two stars.
"We were just trying to go through situations today in practice," Revis said. "We'll get after it. It's still the early stages of camp. We're definitely going to get after it and compete."
As everybody anticipates the next Revis-Marshall matchup in practice, Revis on Saturday consistently downplayed Friday's altercation.
"It's just football, man," Revis said. "Every year I've been involved in training camp, guys get after it. So it's football to me. It's nothing more. It's competition. We're not going to go back and forth [about] who does what [in that particular altercation]. Everybody does things when you're out there playing on the field.
"We're both physical players and we like to compete. I think this is good for us to compete the way we do. Brandon is not going to stop competing the way he competes, and I'm not going to stop competing the way I compete."
