Phillipsburg claims five No. 1 seeds in NJSIAA District 9 wrestling

Phillipsburg claimed five top seeds and Hackettstown three for Saturday’s NJSIAA District 9 tournament at Phillipsburg High School at Wednesday's seeding meeting.

Top Stateliner seeds are sophomore Travis Jones at 113 pounds, senior Tyris Manley at 120, sophomore Cody Harrison at 126, junior Brian Meyer at 145 and senior Robert Melise at 220.

For the Tigers, junior Alex Carida (138), senior Kyle Connelly (195) and Joe Andes (285) are seeded No. 1.

The two Warren County schools claimed 8 of the 14 top seeds between then in the nine-team field. Also competing will be Barringer, Bloomfield, Caldwell, Glen Ridge, Lyndhurst/North Arlington, Montclair, and West Morris Mendham.

The tournament starts at 9:30 a.m. with finals at 4:30 p.m.
