PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Matt Harvey and Terry Collins held their first press conferences of spring training Monday, the second day of Mets' spring training.

Harvey underwent thoracic outlet syndrome surgery last summer, missing most of the 2016 season. He spoke to the media about how difficult the surgery was and what his rehab was like. Harvey was asked if he's ready to be an ace again, but he said he's not thinking about that. All he's thinking about getting back on the mound and pitching effectively.

Why is Blevins a fit for the Mets?

Terry Collins talked about how competitive Harvey is on the mound, and said that he's confident that the Dark Knight will return to his old form.

Collins also talked about the competition between starting pitchers, nicknamed the "Fab Five," and what it means to have five healthy starters, maybe even more with Robert Gsellman and Seth Lugo.

Pitchers will hold their first official workout Tuesday. The Mets have taken the team's injury history into account and have decided to alter their early spring throwing programs and change their daily schedule. Collins said the new program, which was created by him and pitching coach Dan Warthen, will help alleviate wear and tear in spring training with the goal of pitching deeper into the regular season.
