An Allentown man is accused of grabbing a steak knife and threatening to kill his gilrfriend during an early morning attack Monday, city police said.

Officers were called at about 10 a.m. for the alleged assault by a relative of the victim; the victim said the attack occurred around 2 a.m. but she was too scared to call police at the time.

The woman reported her boyfriend, Jose Pena, grabbed a steak knife and told her, "I'm going to kill you," according to police. Pena then allegedly pushed, grabbed and kicked her. Officers saw bruises on the victim's arms.

Pena, of the 1100 block of West Cedar Street, was arrested and charged with simple assault, making terroristic threats and harassment.

The 29-year-old Pena was sent to Lehigh County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
