LOS ANGELES — A worker was injured today when he fell about 20 feet into a concrete vault at a downtown Los Angeles construction site.

Firefighters were sent to the 900 block of South Broadway about 10:45 a.m., and brought the man to safety about 45 minutes later, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.

The man, whose name was not immediately released, preliminarily was described as “conscious and alert,” with unspecified injuries, according to the LAFD.

The vault measures 6-feet-by-6-feet and is 20 feet deep, the LAFD reported.
