SAN ANTONIO — A lightning strike is to blame for an early morning house fire Tuesday on the North Side, according to fire officials on scene.

Firefighters responded to the blaze around 6:10 a.m. in the 3400 block of Northmoor Street, San Antonio Fire Department's Patrick Zepeda said.

Neighbors heard the lightning hit the home and start the fire. The neighbors notified the couple that lived in the home, who were also notified of the fire when their smoke alarm sounded.

"It was almost simultaneous," Zepeda said.

The couple was able to escape without injury.

Zepeda said the lightning strike started a fire in the garage, which then spread to a breakfast nook area on the second floor. The fire caused about $30,000 in damage, according to officials.

Firefighters had extinguished the blaze by 6:40 a.m.
