About 15 participants Sunday channeled their inner scout and raced handmade beer can derby cars down a track at Pearly Baker's Alehouse in Easton.

The annual Sly Fox Beer Can Derby Sunday afternoon coincided with Lehigh Valley Beer Week. Local restaurants and bars celebrate all things craft beer with a smattering of themed events.

Those participating bought kits for $5 and attended a workshop prior to the event to get their cars ready for the race. The rules mirrored typical boy scout pinewood derby kits with the exception that guests had to add a beer can to their cars.

Another 25 people were in attendance to cheer on the racers, who moved their cars swiftly down a track in the restaurant's dining room.

Melissa Vazquez, bar manager, said last year, the first event was held in the evening, but children had inquired about participating so Pearly Bakers changed it this year to the daytime. A handful of younger children were able to join in on the action, she said.

"Even though this is a beer event, they still had a lot of fun," Vazquez said about the younger racers. "Their parents helped them out a bit. It was a great day of people of all ages hanging out and having fun."

Vazquez said due to the derby's popularity, Pearly Bakers could host a second event in the summer.

Winners Sunday included: Racer Ray in first place; Odyssey in second place; and The Stupid Rig in third place. Best of Show went to the "Minnie Mouse" car.
