No matter in which direction you look, to Washington, to Moscow, to Beijing or to Middle East – right of fittest is everywhere. The racket types dominate international stage. The most recent example is poison attack on Russian ex-agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter in UK. The government in London accuses Russia of disclaiming Kremlin. The more unpleasant more cruel world, more urgent question is: how does European Union intend to assert itself?

Some say that European Union must finally learn to make world politics. On horizon, you already see an EU that is ready and able to enforce your interests, even militarily.

The ors say that Europe is lost in this world anyway. The EU is completely helpless towards powers that are ready and capable of brutality. The case of Skripal show this very clearly. Convicts, diplomats, penalties. More is not in Union's weapons arsenal. Russia will not be impressed by this and no or authoritarian power will be.

Not be made up for EU to survive

If EU were human, n one would have to say that it was manic-depressive. It fluctuates between high-flying great-power fantasies and deep dejection. Only one does not seem capable of EU: to a sober relationship with oneself. But that does not happen, especially in se difficult times.

A realistic self-reflection would make it clear that EU is weakened by internal crises, that re are neat crashes between North and south, between East and west. And yes, it is by no means a fact that EU will survive. There are existential crises.

The Union, however, is far ahead of competition with or powers when it is more closely viewed. This applies to internal peace, which is true for general prosperity, that applies to level of freedom, which is case for security.

The Union must be fortified

The EU is not perfect. She'll never be. It remains work in progress ad infinitum – but so much progress has to be given to ors. All world knows that, only Europeans seem to have forgotten it. Of course, Jean-Claude Juncker cannot put a European army in motion and let it invade somewhere. But that is not a regrettable circumstance.

It is not a question of gesundzubeten EU. It is a matter of naming problems and weaknesses, not forgetting strengths of EU. The authoritarian powers are causing a lot of difficulties for EU. That is beyond doubt. But to conclude that it has already lost race or would have to become like se powers to assert itself – this is both a fallacy.

The Union must be fortified. and is it when European citizens are convinced of idea behind m: we commit ourselves to cooperation, we give ourselves rules that shape our coexistence. We abide by se rules. One more, sometimes or. But in sum, everyone wins.

It is a very simple idea that is incredibly difficult to realize. It is idea of a democratically composed community. Neir Moscow, Beijing nor Ankara have a better offer. The autocrats, however, cannot grasp ir happiness. Because many Europeans are caught by longing for death. They are in love with ir own demise.
