Mumm Napa Brut Prestige, NV Napa County, 12.5%, $22. A complex sparkler that definitely overdelivers at this price. Aromas of yeast, strawberry and honey. On the palate, notes of red apple and stone fruit. It’s sophisticated and seamless. Pinpoint bubbles. Impressive.

L’Ermitage, 2007 Anderson Valley Brut, $48. An elegant sparkler with bright minerality keeping its rich flavors of baked apple and crème brulee in check. Lingering finish. Lovely.
