Yemen war: Federal government approves arms exports to Saudi Arabia

The federal government has approved delivery of eight coastal protection boats to Saudi Arabia. The Federal Security Council under Angela Merkel (CDU) agreed to arms export, said Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier (CDU) in a letter. The boats are built at Lürssen shipyard in western Pomeranian Volgast.

The decision contrasts with Coalition Treaty of Union and SPD, in which parties agreed on an export ban for all countries, "as long as y are directly involved in Yemen war." But re is a derogation: companies that have already been granted pre-approval should be allowed to supply agreed armaments.

This regulation seems to have been used by federal government. For Saudi Arabia is directly involved with air raids and ground troops in Yemen war. The kingdom is waging an alliance of nine states which, in Civil War country, have been fighting against Iran-supported Huthi forces rebels since 2015.
