“It was stressful, I had never done that! But when I saw the incomprehension in his eyes, I understood that I was like his lifeline in this particularly difficult moment, ”says Seida Kaya.

The officer from the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) had no idea what awaited her on July 15 when she initially went to the CHU Sainte-Justine with a colleague.

While she was waiting for a file related to the DPJ, we announced on the intercom of the establishment that we were looking for a Turkish interpreter "immediately" in the delivery room.

“I thought to myself that if I had been in his situation, I would have liked to have someone to help me. To not understand anything when we are about to give birth, it must be unimaginable, ”says the 25-year-old young woman.

A “very moving” moment

Born to parents of Turkish descent, Ms Kaya then rushed to offer her help to the mother-to-be, after making sure she could leave her post.

She first acted as an intermediary between the doctors and the patient to explain the procedure related to the cesarean section that the latter had to undergo. But she was quickly asked if she could stay with the lady during her delivery.

"It went really well," said the police officer. I attended the whole scene, it was a very moving moment, very beautiful. »

The intervention also caused a stir within the SPVM, which congratulated her for the altruism she showed when she had just joined the organization.

"It was the first time I witnessed a situation of this kind and I can only salute the dedication of Agent Kaya in this case," said her supervisor, Valéry Plante.

A healthy baby

A few days after giving birth, Seida Kaya went to visit the mother and the child she helped deliver. She was then able to take in her arms the little Zumera Mina, in full health, a few moments before returning to work.

“His mother told me that she was infinitely grateful and that she did not know how to repay me. But I was only proud and happy to have been able to help him! “, underlines the policewoman.

She also planned to go visit the little family again during the holiday season.
