TRENTON -- Two men were wounded in street shootings in Trenton in less than an hour Sunday, police said Monday.

Both men got themselves to city hospitals after being shot, police said.

At about 12:30 p.m., police received a call for shots fired in the 600 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in North Trenton. Officers found evidence of a shooting, but nobody that had been injured, police said.

Moments later, a 39-year-old man arrived at Capital Health Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the chest. He had driven himself to the hospital, police said.

He told investigators that a man fired a shot at him while he was on foot in the block, and he heard more gunfire as he ran toward his car and jumped in the driver seat.

The bullet that struck his chest went through his body and he was initially listed in critical condition, police said.

At about 1:20 p.m., a man, also 39-years-old, walked into the emergency room at St. Francis Medical Center with a wound to his leg.

He told police he was waling on Girard Avenue in East Trenton when he heard several shots and ran. He got a ride to the hospital after realizing he was wounded, police said.

The man was treated and release the same day for a wound to his thigh, police said. Police found evidence of a shooting in the 100 block of Girard Avenue.

The department's Shooting Response Team is investigating both incidents. No arrests were announced Monday by police.
