CaixaBank distributes this Wednesday a dividend of 1,730 million and almost half will go to 'La Caixa' and the Frob

MADRID, 9 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

This Wednesday, April 12, CaixaBank will pay 1,730 million euros in dividends, of which 850 million will be distributed between the 'la Caixa' Foundation and the Fund for Orderly Bank Restructuring (FROB), which owns practically half of the capital from the bank.

In this way, in the last five years, both shareholders --who together have a 46.129% stake, since the FROB owns 16.117% and 'La Caixa', 30.012%-- have received more than 2,500 million euros in dividends

The entity will distribute, after approval at the general meeting of shareholders held on March 31 in Valencia, a gross dividend of 0.2306 euros per share charged to the results of 2022, 58% more than the previous year, when distributed a dividend of 0.1463 euros, and equivalent to 55% of the profits for the year, which is in line with the policy approved for this year of distributing a 'pay out' of between 50% and 60%.

Specifically, the 'la Caixa' Foundation will receive 550 million this year, after having deposited 354 million in 2022, 65 million in 2021, 167 million in 2020, 407 million in 2019. In total, the institution has benefited from dividends of about 1,550 million in this five-year period.

For its part, the State, through the FROB, has received almost 1,000 million in these five years, divided into 300 million this year, 190 million in 2022, 35 million in 2021, 220 million in 2020 and 219 million in 2019. , in these last two cases as a Bankia shareholder, before the merger took place.

During his speech at the general meeting of shareholders, the CEO of CaixaBank, Gonzalo Gortázar, explained that the result obtained by the entity in 2022 "is also the basis for adequate remuneration for our more than 617,000 shareholders".

In this sense, he highlighted that the main shareholder is the 'la Caixa' Foundation, so that "more than 30% of the dividend figure, approximately 550 million euros, reverts directly to society, with multiple initiatives that support progress of all social classes, and especially of the most vulnerable groups".

"Reverting to society an amount as significant as 550 million makes us absolutely different from any other financial entity in Spain and, honestly, in the world," defended the CEO of CaixaBank.

For his part, the president of the entity, José Ignacio Goirigolzarri, assured that at CaixaBank, together with the objective of achieving "excellent profitability" on own funds as a result of its activity, it is "totally committed" to "supporting the needs of the society we serve".

With respect to 2023, the dividend policy will be the same as that applied in 2022, with a cash distribution of between 50% and 60% of the consolidated net profit, which will be paid in a single payment in April 2024.

In 2022, CaixaBank had a net attributable profit of 3,145 million euros, 29.7% more than the previous year, based on homogeneous perimeters. If the extraordinary accounting impacts from the merger with Bankia are taken into account, however, the result fell by 39.8%.
