A $20 million lawsuit claims a Milwaukie High School cheerleader suffered brain damage when she tumbled to the ground during a cheer team stunt and slammed her head on a floor mat.

Alexis Lisle fell on Feb. 18, 2015, according to the lawsuit filed Thursday against the North Clackamas School District.

Lisle was standing on top of a base formation of four other teammates -- held up at their shoulder height -- when she fell backward and hit the mat, the suit says.

The suit claims the district failed to appoint a properly trained coach, failed to adequately train team members in following safety rules for the sport and failed to assign spotters who might have caught Lisle's fall.

The school district couldn't be reached for immediate comment.

Lisle's Portland attorney, Michael Van Hoomissen, declined to answer questions, including about the extent of Lisle's injuries.

The suit states that Lisle suffered a concussion and a permanent brain injury, as well as unspecified injuries to her collarbone, head, neck and back.

Lisle is seeking at least $10 million for her medical expenses, "special education needs" and lost earnings "due to probable future impairment of earning capacity."

The suit, filed in Multnomah County Circuit Court, also seeks at least $10 million for her pain, suffering and loss of enjoyment of life.

It doesn't state Lisle's age, but says she was a minor at the time of the fall.
