“I accompany investors in their projects to give them the best advice,” he assures us in particular in an interview carried out during a “Millionaires Week” in a tropical destination.

Powell, however, found himself in the sights of the OACIQ trustee for having imitated the signature of a childhood friend without his knowledge.

In early July, he pleaded guilty to one count that he instead signed six documents in 2018 and 2019.

According to a summary of the facts, Powell signed in place of this friend during the acquisition of land allowing the construction of an income building in Boisbriand.

On the purchase offer, it was only the name of his friend that appeared, but it was Powell who actually signed, the trustee's investigation revealed. Powell also acted as a broker in the transaction, according to a report.

In 2019, Powell's friend said he realized his signature had been forged after receiving a formal notice from a company. He was unaware of the situation, he assured.

SERIOUS OFFENSES

"The fact of affixing a false signature is equivalent to fabricating false documents", insisted the syndic.

“These are offenses of inherently high gravity. This type of reprehensible acts undermines the trust that the public must have in members of the profession,” the Disciplinary Committee ruled.

David Powell has had his license suspended for 30 days.

The latter told us for his part that he had a power of attorney to sign in place of his friend.

"It's a squabble of partners that escalated. […] It’s not like a client Mr. and Mrs. Everyone, ”he defended himself, while saying that he only sells a few properties a year.
