Palmer Township authorities and the Northampton County Coroner's Office were responding Wednesday night to a pedestrian accident near the Palmer Park Mall, a county 911 dispatch supervisor said.

It was reported shortly after 9 p.m. on Route 248 just north of Park Avenue.

Police in a nixle.com alert described the incident as a fatal pedestrian accident and asked motorists to avoid the area.

Authorities closed Route 248, also known as Nazareth Road, in both directions between Park Avenue to the south and Old Nazareth Road/Crest Boulevard to the north.

Further information, including any description on a vehicle involved, could not immediately be confirmed.
