HOLLYWOOD >> Granada Hills Charter High School won the Los Angeles Unified School District Academic Decathlon for the sixth time in seven years, district officials announced Friday night.

Granada Hills scored 59,864.7 points out of a possible 60,000. Marshall was second with 58,882.5 and Franklin third with 57,769.9. The top three finishers were the same as in last year’s decathlon.

Seven other teams also qualified for the California Academic Decathlon, which will be held March 23-26 in Sacramento: El Camino Real Charter; Garfield; Grant; Palisades Charter; Van Nuys; Bell; and North Hollywood.

Anrui Gu of Marshall was the top individual scorer with 9,636.7 points.

Mathew Arnold of Granada Hills received the Coach of the Year award.

The Academic Decathlon began Jan. 28 at the Roybal Learning Center near downtown Los Angeles, with teams competing in the speech, interview and essay portions.

The competition concluded Saturday with tests in art, economics, language and literature, mathematics, music and social science and the Super Quiz, also at the Roybal Learning Center.

The study topic was World War II.

The results were announced at an awards ceremony at Hollywood High School.
