Groundhog Day brings cloudy, windy day with chance of showers for N.J.

It's Groundhog Day and less scientific weather watchers are waiting for word on whether there will be six more weeks of winter or an early spring.

As of now, the National Weather Service is predicting a cold front heading into New Jersey this morning that will pass through the area during the afternoon.

The NWS said there's a good chance of considerable clouds across northern New Jersey with a chance of isolated snow showers. But forecasters aren't expecting much in the way of accumulating snow.

Winds will be light, coming in from the west, and will increase to 10 to 15 mph in the later part of the morning. Once the cold front passes, they could increase to gusts of about 20 mph.

Highs will range between the upper 20s and the low 30s north of I-80. Highs in South Jersey will be in the mid to upper 40s.

At about 6 a.m., it was windy in Newark at 43 degrees and 31 degrees with clear skies in Atlantic City.

Winds will die down this evening to about 5 to 10 mph as skies start to clear out. Overnight lows will range from 10 to 15 degrees along and north of I-80, and will hit the teens to low 20s in most of the Garden State.
