About 500 people have crowded into AQMD headquarters in Diamond Bar today where the air board is expected to adopt a 15-year air-cleanup plan.

There are so many people in attendance that many are watching the meeting from nearby crowd overflow rooms at the South Coast Air Quality Management District offices

The proposed plan would rely on voluntary reductions from polluting industries, rather than on penalties and rules, and some protesters complain the plan is too weak.

“Bad air quality is our Standing Rock,” said Jason Martinez, at the meeting.

There are also protesters gathered outside the AQMD headquarters.

The district regulates air pollution in the sea-to-mountains air basin covering Orange County and the urban portions of Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino counties.
