Hermès increases its sales by 22% until March due to the pull of China and tourism in Europe

MADRID, 14 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Sales of the French fashion and luxury accessories firm Hermès reached a total of 3,380 million euros in the first three months of 2023, a figure that represents an increase of 22.3% compared to the same period of the previous year, according to the company that created Birkin bags.

Without taking into account the impact of the evolution of the exchange rate, the turnover of the French firm between January and March registered a year-on-year increase of 23%.

Sales of the French firm in Europe grew by 22.9% year-on-year, up to 664 million euros, and 20.9% in Asia, up to 2,084 million, while in America revenues increased 23.9%, up to 556 millions.

In this sense, the company highlighted "a very good Chinese New Year" and the solid growth in Europe, particularly in the United Kingdom and Italy, driven by the increase in tourist flows.

Regarding the different lines of business, the leather and leather goods division had a turnover of 1,409 million euros, 17.8% more, while the accessories business increased revenue by 33.7%, up to 950 million, and the silks and textiles 18.4%, up to 234 million. On its side, watch sales grew by 23.6%, to 166 million.

"The first quarter of 2023 is in line with the strong results of 2022 and reflects the success of our collections around the world, driven by the loyalty of our customers," said Axel Dumas, CEO of Hermès.

In the medium term, despite economic, geopolitical and monetary uncertainties around the world, the French company remains confident in its revenue growth target at constant exchange rates.
