An enormous meteor streaked over the Midwest early Monday, visible from at least four states including Illinois, meteorologists said.

“It was basically visible for a long distance,” said Ricky Castro, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Chicago office. “It was certainly an interesting event, uncommon for the area.”

Dashboard camera videos from suburban police departments were shared with the weather service show a bright blue-green fireball falling across the sky.

The weather service got word of sightings as far south as Decatur, Ill., as well as in Iowa and Indiana, after about 1 a.m. Monday.

Wisconsin reportedly saw the most dramatic effects, meteorologists said.

The weather service’s Milwaukee office got reports of sonic booms north of that city.

“Up in Wisconsin was ground zero, we just got the fun part of it,” said Castro.
