Iberdrola and bp pulse announced this Friday the official launch of their joint high-speed public charging venture for electric vehicles in Spain and Portugal after receiving the necessary authorizations, both companies reported in a joint statement.

The new company formed by Iberdrola and bp pulse plans to invest 1,000 million euros to deploy 5,000 charging points by 2025 and 11,700 by 2030, all with 100% renewable energy through guarantee of origin certificates.

This new company begins its journey with more than 300 fast (>50 kilowatts) and ultra-fast (>150 kilowatts) charging operating points for electric vehicles.

With independent headquarters in Madrid and Porto, the new company will be led by Pablo Pirles of Iberdrola, who has been appointed CEO, and Elena Melia, of bp, as future financial director.

The objective of this new company is to promote access for all citizens to a reliable high-speed charging infrastructure and thus help eliminate "one of the main barriers to the definitive take-off of the electric vehicle."

bp has a network of 1,300 service stations, a large part of which can be used as charging 'hubs' for the new company in Spain and Portugal.

The general director of the new company, Pablo Pirles, has highlighted that this alliance seeks to make ultra-fast public charging accessible to all citizens, since the high speed of the network will allow obtaining autonomy of up to 200 kilometers in just a few minutes. burden.

"Our goal is to promote the definitive take-off in the use of electric vehicles, and we also do it with 100% renewable energy through guarantee of origin certificates, contributing to accelerating the energy transition," added Pirles.

This operation joins others recently carried out by Iberdrola, such as the agreements signed with Mapfre, Norges Bank Investment Management, Masdar, GIC or Energy Infrastructure Partners. For its part, in addition to this alliance, bp is working with partners such as Uber, Hertz, Marks
