Man and 2 teens arrested after Bridgeton carjacking, cops say

BRIDGETON -- Police arrested a Hopewell Township man and two teens Sunday after they were found in a Ford Explorer that was carjacked earlier that day.

The owner of the Ford Explorer was dropping a friend off on the 100 block of Vine Street Sunday around 10 p.m. when five people approached and began assaulting the friend, police said. While the assault was going on, two of the assaulters went to the driver and punched him in the face before throwing him out of the car. All five of the individuals then got into the car and drove away, police said.

Police were on Vine Street investigating the assault and carjacking when an officer found the Ford Explorer being driven around Water and Broad streets.

Bridgeton cop acquitted of charges sues department

After a short car chase, the Explorer stopped on Grove Street and all five people in the SUV began running away. Police arrested two juveniles and 20-year-old Kenneth Hunter Jr. of Meadow Wood Drive, Hopewell Township.

Police charged Hunter with resisting arrest, obstruction and joyriding. He was held in the Cumberland County Jail.
