Man in fatal crash on U.S. 26 lived in Portland, police say

Beaverton police said the man who died Monday after being hit by a car lived in Portland.

Johann Young, 50, was fatally hit around 9:30 p.m. on U.S. 20 near the Northwest Cornell Road exit, Officer Jeremy Shaw, police spokesman, said in a news release. Young also has ties to Columbia County, Shaw said.

"Our thoughts go out to Johann's family, friends, and everyone involved in this tragic crash," Shaw said in the release.

Shaw had said Monday it appears the pedestrian walked in front of the driver, who tried to avoid him but clipped him with the car's passenger side. Police didn't find any indication the driver was distracted, impaired or speeding.

No other information was released by police.
