More Sony laptop batteries recalled for burn, fire hazard

Sony has expanded its recall to include 700 additional Panasonic lithium-ion battery packs used in its VAIO laptop computers because they can overheat and pose burn and fire hazards.

About 1,700 units were originally recalled in June 2016.

U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission 

No injuries have been reported to date.

Batteries included in this recall have model number VGP-BPS26 and part numbers 1-853-237-11 and 1-853-237-21 printed on the back of the battery pack. A full list of affected laptop computer model numbers can be found here.

The laptops and battery packs were sold at Best Buy, Sony retail stores, other electronic retailers and online at www.sony.com between February 2013 and October 2013.

Consumers should stop using the batteries and remove them from the laptop and contact the company for a replacement.
