Charged is Owen M. McGaughran, 18, of the 200 block of Nazareth Pike, Lower Nazareth Township.

Nazareth police joined an investigation with Upper Nazareth Township and Colonial Regional police shortly before 9 p.m. Jan. 30 at Holy Family Cemetery, 497 W. High St., in search of McGaughran.

Officers found McGaughran seated in a parked pickup truck "extremely upset" and "angry," according to police. When officers asked if McGaughran had a weapon, he allegedly replied, "There is something behind the seat."

Officers searched the vehicle and seized a .45-caliber Taurus revolver in a metal case behind the driver's seat, police said. McGaughran told police the gun was not his and he found it in a trash can near the baseball field on Green Street in Nazareth, according to police.

Police said the gun turned up stolen in the jurisdiction of the Colonial Regional Police Department from an October 2016 burglary. Court records did not say if the gun was loaded.

McGaughran was taken to St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem Township.

McGaughran is charged with receiving stolen property and carrying an unlicensed firearm, both felonies. He was arraigned Feb. 7 before District Judge John Capobianco, who set bail at $10,000.

In lieu of bail, McGaughran was taken to Northampton County Prison, where records showed he remained Tuesday.
