TRENTON - Shaun C. Van Doren, who started his 21st year on the Tewksbury Township Committee on Jan. 1, was inducted into the New Jersey State League of Municipalities' during the 25th annual Mayor's Legislative Day held recently at the State House Annex.
Shaun C. Van Doren"I'm very humbled and honored to have been inducted into the N.J. Elected Officials Hall of Fame," Van Doren said. "All I've ever wanted to do was serve the residents of Tewksbury by helping make it a wonderful community in which to live and work.
"I hope that I have helped make residents' lives better over the past 20 years. My commitment has always been to them."
Local municipal governing body members can be named to the hall of fame once they have served more than 20 years.
"The Elected Officials Hall of Fame recognizes these officials who have selflessly guided their communities through the good times and the difficult times often with little recognition of their public service," said Bridgeton City Mayor Albert Kelly, president of the State League of Municipalities. "This small token of appreciation focuses a light on their sacrifices over lengthy tenures, demonstrating how much they care and serving as excellent examples of civic pride for all citizens to emulate."
Van Doren is the first elected official from Tewksbury Township to be inducted into the hall of fame. Statewide, 585 municipal leaders have been inducted.
Van Doren is an eighth generation resident of the township, living in the same home as his ancestors since the early 1800s.
