N.J. teen's easy question gets warm reception from combative Trump

FAIR LAWN -- There seemed to be a bit of a respite during the combative news conference President Trump held last week when a young reporter asked Trump about the First Lady's role at the White House.

You have 19-year-old Kyle Mazza of Fair Lawn to thank for that, The New York Times reported.

In the same news conference where Trump told a reporter to sit down and criticized the press' fairness toward covering his administration, Mazza asked this question.

"Mr. President, First Lady Melania Trump announced the reopening of the White House Visitors Office. And she does a lot of great work for the country as well. Can you talk a little bit about what First Lady Melania Trump does for the country?" Mazza started.

"Now that's what I call a nice question," Trump responded.

"That is very -- who are you with?" Trump continued.

Mazza replied that he was with "UNF News," which the Times reported stands for "Universal News Forever."

"Good, I'm going to start watching," Trump said.

Mazza describes his news site as "focused on delivering the news without opinion and just honest, straightforward reporting."

Mazza told The New York Times that he began the news station when he was eight years old and has covered New Jersey, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and multiple press briefings at the White House.

The network doesn't have advertisers or subscribers.

Mazza seemed to shake off criticism that his question was a soft one for Trump.

"I was really honored that he appreciated my question," Mazza reportedly said. "And I was appreciative he answered my question. The president took the time out of his day to answer my question."

Mazza asks his question around the 1:08 mark:
