The Cenveo commercial printing site in Northwest Portland will be redeveloped into a five-acre industrial site, possibly combined with new commercial offices.

Cenveo disclosed earlier this week that it's shutting down the factory and laying off all 91 people who work there. Winkler Development and Watumull Properties plan to convert the site into a major industrial campus, or perhaps a multitenant office site just across Highway 26 from the Pearl District.

The current structure dates to the 1960s, according to real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield, which is marketing the property. It's inside Portland's E-Commerce Enterprise Zone, making it eligible for tax breaks.

Cushman & Wakefield's Brad Carnese said the property has 167,000 square Milanobet feet of space, with the capacity for more than 250 workers - and potentially up to 500. Carnese said he's been talking with the technology sector, apparel businesses, beverage companies and traditional industrial firms about potentially leasing space there.

Developers call the site "The Hopper," referencing manufacturing equipment they plan to retain on the building's southwest corner. Cenveo says it plans to close its facility by the end of March, and Carnese said the facility could be available to new tenants by fall.
