P'burg pair, car seized in Palmer pedestrian fatal cleared, cops say

A black sedan seized in Phillipsburg hours after a fatal pedestrian crash in Palmer Township was not involved in the incident, township police announced Thursday.

The crash about 9:10 p.m. Feb. 8 left 18-year-old Zakaiyah Halley, of Phillipsburg, dead, authorities had said.

Investigators were continuing to look for a Chevrolet Impala, described as black or dark-colored and with a rounded shape, based on evidence collected at the crash scene on Nazareth Road (Route 248) near the Palmer Park Mall. The sedan sustained damage to its passenger-side undercarriage and front passenger-side wheel well, police said.

Phillipsburg police assisted Palmer police about 2:20 a.m. Feb. 9 in impounding a black Mazda6 sedan in the 200 block of Morris Street in Phillipsburg. Two men rousted from the home spoke with police and were taken in handcuffs to police headquarters in town.

Neither man was charged with a crime, and police have not identified them.

Palmer police Detective Jim Alercia said Thursday both of them "have been cooperating with police and also have ben ruled out of any involvement relating to the incident."
