Police investigate death of Libertyville woman: 'We don't know why she died'

Libertyville police say they have opened an investigation after a 51-year-old woman was found dead without any clear cause of death.

The woman, identified as Karla A. Adams, was found dead by her family at about 8:25 p.m. Sunday on the floor of their condo in the 600 block of South Milwaukee Avenue, according to police Lt. Bill Kinast.

"We're listing it as suspicious because we don't know why she died," Kinast said. "There's nothing that jumps out as criminal, but we're still cautious since a natural cause has not been determined either."

Nothing was taken from the condo, and friends and family reported no suspicious activity near the condo or noticeable conflicts in recent weeks, Kinast said.

Kinast said Libertyville has requested assistance from the Lake County Major Crime Task Force.

Lake County Coroner Howard Cooper said an autopsy was conducted Monday morning and was inconclusive.

"There's no clear signs of anything," Cooper said. "We're waiting for toxicology results while doing some additional investigating."

Toxicology tests usually take at least three weeks, Cooper said.
