A person was killed early Thursday in a single-vehicle crash in the city's Belmont Gardens neighborhood, police said. 

The crash happened just before 3:20 a.m. in the 4200 block of West Diversey Avenue, police said. The vehicle crashed into a pole and stopped against a building. 

The passenger of the vehicle was pronounced dead. Police did not release the person's age, gender or name. 

The driver of the vehicle left the scene after the crash, police said. 

No one was in custody, and the crash remained under investigation.
