As most of western Oregon continues under a flood watch through Friday, landslides continue to dump dirt and debris on area roadways.

On Wednesday crews were able to clear both the Skyline Boulevard and U.S. 26 westbound slides prior to the evening commutes. But late Wednesday night another slide closed Highway 100 (Historic Columbia River Highway) between Larch Mountain Road and the Vista House.

Also Northwest Thompson Road is closed in the west hills to through traffic between Northwest Cornell Road and Skyline Boulevard due to a landslide that occurred late Wednesday night.

***

CLATSKANIE 7:15 a.m.; OR 47 is closed about two miles south of Clatskanie in Columbia County due to a landslide. An ODOT crew is working to clean up the slide, however the road will likely be closed for much of the morning. A local detour around the slide area is Aviary Road.

***

Many area rivers are high and heavy rains overnight has caused ponding on some roads. Small local streams and rivers like Fanno Creek also are at or above their banks. Remember to "Turn Around, Don't Drown." Driving through high water is dangerous and sometimes deadly.

The Oregon Department of Geology is warning of the high risk of landslides that often follow flooding. Be extra careful on roads that are below steep slopes, in canyons and at the bases of steep hills.
