Rally against anti-immigrant policies taking place in Trenton Monday

TRENTON -- A Princeton activist group is planning a rally against President Trump's executive orders on immigration and his "divisive rhetoric" Monday afternoon.

The event, which is called, "A Rally Against Islamophobia and Bigotry," was planned by the Coalition for Peace Action and will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday on the steps of Trenton City Hall.

The rally will be a chance for Mercer County residents and protesters to "denounce President Trump's recent executive orders, anti-immigrant policies and divisive rhetoric," according to a description for the event.

Trenton Mayor Eric Jackson and Islamic Center of Ewing Imam Qareeb Bashir are two of the scheduled speakers at the event.

The event comes on the heels of other, similar rallies and protests around the country, since Trump instituted a travel order.

The order bars citizens from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen from entering the U.S. for 90 days and refugees for 120 days, and blocks indefinitely all refugees from Syria.

Many have criticized the order, saying it targets predominantly Muslim countries. Trump has denied that the order is related to religion but has called it a "ban."
