Step-daughter of victim enters plea in Sanford Buffalo Wild Wings shooting

A 19-year-old Sanford woman whose boyfriend is accused of shooting her step-father outside a Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant in Sanford pleaded no contest Friday to being an accessory after the fact.

Destiny Cardozo was placed on 18 months of probation, said her attorney, Jeff Dowdy, who heads the Public Defender’s Office in Seminole County.

Her step-father, Samuel Peay, remains hospitalized following the Jan. 28 shooting.

Cardozo’s boyfriend, Jerome Lafortune, 20, remains in the Seminole County Jail, accused of attempted murder. He was being held without bail.

As part of her deal with prosecutors, Cardozo agreed to testify against Lafortune, Dowdy said.
