The groundhog was wrong. But how long will warm weather last?

That darn groundhog predicted six more weeks of winter, but this weekend feels an awful lot like spring.

Cold weather is expected to return in waves over the next week, but forecasters say to expect more unseasonably warm weather, too.

Saturday through Monday should see temperature in the 50s and 60s, according to the National Weather Service and AccuWeather.

A cold front moving in Monday and Tuesday from the northeast should drop highs to the lower 50s and 40s and bring some brisk weather, AccuWeather said.

But then a blast of April-like weather from the south around the middle of the week could lead some to throw open their windows.

"Temperatures are expected to reach into the 50s as far north as upstate New York and southern Maine on Thursday, while 60-degree temperatures push into northern Pennsylvania and southern New York," AccuWeather Meteorologist Kyle Elliott said in the agency's forecast. "Temperatures can soar into the 70s as far north as southern Pennsylvania, with 80-degree readings possible as far northward as southern Virginia."

The highs are 20 to 30 degrees above average, the AccuWeather forecast said. While cooler temperatures should return next weekend, the forecast also predicts dramatic temperature swings continuing into March.

The National Weather Service noted on Friday that by March 1, Allentown will have recorded 23 consecutive months -- dating back to March 2015 -- of above-normal monthly average temperature.
