UK GDP contracted 0.3% in October

The gross domestic product (GDP) of the United Kingdom suffered a contraction of 0.3% in the month of October, compared to the 0.2% growth observed in September and the analyst consensus' expectation of stagnation, as reported this Wednesday the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

Compared to October last year, Europe's second largest economy grew by 0.3%, well below the 1.3% expansion between September 2022 and September 2023.

In the month of October, services fell 0.2% monthly, weighed down by information and communication, after the growth of two tenths in the month of September, while production contracted 0.8% in October, after stagnate in September.

For its part, the construction sector fell 0.5% in October after expanding 0.4% in September 2023.

Thus, UK GDP between August and October would have seen no growth compared to the three months to July 2023.

In the quarter, services activity grew 0.1%, production fell 0.7% and construction fell 0.3%.
