- Kohler x SR_A announce limited edition 'Formation 02' smart toilet and installation for FuoriSalone during Milan Design Week 2024
KOHLER, Wis., March 6, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Kohler, a global lifestyle brand and leader in kitchen and bath products, returns to Milan Design Week with the world premiere of an immersive installation at large-scale collaboration with artist-designer Dr Samuel Ross MBE and his industrial design studio, SR_A, alongside the global launch of Formation 02, a new smart toilet, the second product of the multi-year Kohler x SR_A partnership.
Formation 02 is a limited edition smart toilet available on sra.kohler.com starting April 16.

DESIGN
Inspired by the speed and force of water in nature, Formation 02 represents a change in the design language of this brutalist silhouette. Using unique molding and machining techniques, the toilet base features dramatic colors, edges and angles, juxtaposed against the softness of the integrated cylindrical shapes.
Through this new design, together with the Formation 01 faucet, Ross aims to expand the movement and experience of water by offering a place of reconsideration among everyday objects and rituals.

Whether through the unique embellishments of the character of water or through the force of nature to reshape the material. Formation 02 will remind you of the journey that water must take."
TECHNOLOGY AND COLOR
Formation 02 exemplifies innovation in the smart toilet category while introducing a new design silhouette to Kohler's Eir smart toilet. With convenient features including a heated seat, customizable cleaning, night light, hands-free opening/closing, automatic flushing, plus a touchscreen remote control, the Formation 02 epitomizes innovation and comfort.
The industrial Haptic Orange shade pays homage to Kohler's 1967 debut of "Tiger Lily" in its bath line, blending Ross' signature color with Kohler's legacy of color leadership. Formation 02 is the second product of the collaboration, which continues to embrace Ross's avant-garde artistic approach, while paying tribute to Kohler's 150 years of developing a new design language for water solutions.
INSTALLATION IN FUORISALONE
Formation 02 will be presented at FuoriSalone through a specific large-scale installation titled Terminal 02, which will take place at the Palazzo del Senato (Via Senato 10) every day from 12:00 to 22:00 from Tuesday, April 16 until on Sunday, April 21.
Terminal 02 will invite visitors to travel through a labyrinthine network of industrial pipes leading to the Formation 02 toilet. This immersive experience will allow visitors to witness the flow of water in different forms and levels, the ideas of flow and control , along with discovery and play that will come together through an aesthetic that uses elements of the natural landscape juxtaposed with industrial and scale engineering. The industrial and brutalist products and installation sit atop the grand pillars of the historic Palazzo del Senato, reflecting its classical architectural elements and the sky. Honoring the heritage of traditional craftsmanship and exploring new territories to change our perspective on the essential element of water, the installation will embody the philosophy shared between Kohler and SR_A.
