The iconic international production premieres at the King Fahad Cultural Centre, Riyadh, on Thursday 25 April.

LONDON, March 20, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- The Saudi Theater and Performing Arts Commission today announced the launch of the international ticketing website for Zarqa Al Yamama, the first grand opera produced by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Zarqa Al Yamama marks a phenomenon of cultural exchange, bringing together local talents with international stars. The libretto was created by award-winning Saudi poet and playwright Saleh Zamanan. To bring its creation into the spotlight, the Theater and Performing Arts Commission has brought together a group of leading international classical music artists and specialists under the creative direction of Ivan Vukcevic and will offer a series of world-class performances alongside local Saudi talent .

The original musical score is composed by the Australian Lee Bradshaw, drawing inspiration from the most emblematic symphonies of classical music, as well as elements of Arabic music. The main vocal cast is led by world-acclaimed mezzo-soprano, Dame Sarah Connolly, who shares the stage with Saudi artists Khayran Alzahrani, Reemaz Oqbi and Sawsan Al-Bahiti, among other global and local stars, representing a historic moment in the development of the Kingdom's national music program.

The opera will be performed by the acclaimed Dresdner Sinfoniker, conducted by internationally esteemed conductor Pablo González, and will feature vocal accompaniment from the Czech Philharmonic Choir. World-renowned creative stage director Daniele Finzi Pasca is a producer of important international artistic events.

The opera opens on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at the 2,700-capacity King Fahad Cultural Center, Riyadh, and will run for a series of ten performances, concluding on Saturday, May 4, 2024.
