Russia: Siemens turbines in Crimea are not confiscated

The Russian judiciary rejected seizure of four Siemens gas turbines that had been brought to Crimea against will of technology group. As Russian news agencies reported, a court in Moscow rejected a corresponding demand from Siemens. According to Siemens, Russian company Technopromexport has bought four such machines in summer of 2016 from German company and n delivered m to Crimea. Technopromexport, a subsidiary of State group Rostec, violates supply contracts and EU sanctions.

As Russian government said at time, turbines installed on Crimea originate from Russian production and were assembled from Russian components. Siemens has demanded from Technopromexport to return turbines to Russia and put a criminal complaint. The machines were actually destined for a power plant in Taman in Russia. Siemens is also willing to cancel original contract and buy back machines.

Russia has annexed Crimea in spring 2014. The Ukrainian peninsula has since been subject to economic sanctions by EU and United States, which prohibit direct contacts re. However, export of power plants to Russia is permitted. Due to supply of turbines, EU had imposed punitive measures against three Russian companies and three individuals in August 2017. The Russian government evaluated this as "hostile and unfounded."
