STATEMENT: A step forward for the construction of the Hotel Torre del Puerto in Malaga

Malaga, November 24, 2023.

The building, designed by Estudio Seguí, will be an architectural landmark and driver of sustainable and cultural development, with eco-efficient technologies that comply with European regulations. Strategically located on the Levante Dock, the hotel will attract more than 300 cruise ships a year, generating 600 direct and indirect jobs during construction and the 50-year concession.

The Hotel Torre del Puerto project, designed by Estudio Seguí and presented by the companies "Andalusian Hospitality II" and "Al Alfia" in collaboration with the hotel group "Hesperia", has received approval from the Malaga City Council, marking a significant milestone for the urban development of the city. This project, backed by the fund linked to the royal family of Qatar, has gone through a process of more than seven years before the four State administrations, including a public tender by the Port Authority. Initially promoted by the PSOE, it has had the continuous and consensual support of the Popular Party, demonstrating coherence and political support throughout its development. Once this procedure has been completed, it will be Puertos del Estado that will forward the project to the Council of Ministers, which will be the body in charge of making the final decision on the construction of the hotel complex. Impulse for urban development in Malaga The Hotel Torre del Puerto, strategically located on the Levante Dock, not only seeks to be an architectural reference with its 27 floors and 378 five-star "Grand Luxury" rooms, but also plans to attract more than 300 annual cruises, generating an estimated flow of 500,000 tourists per year. This plan not only focuses on the structure, but anticipates the creation of more than 600 direct and indirect jobs during construction and the 50 years of concession. Furthermore, it stands out for its key contribution to the tourist and cultural development of Malaga and the Costa del Sol, promoting sustainability with eco-efficient technologies and a photovoltaic plant in compliance with European regulations. In relation to the dedication of public space, the Hotel Torre del Puerto presents a comprehensive proposal that includes landscaping, transforming interstitial areas into public spaces that will improve urban quality. Details about the landscape design, the extension of green areas, and the environmental and social benefits are incorporated as fundamental elements of this initiative. Transparency in the processes and commitment to the environment The approval process of the Special Port Plan has been exhaustive, covering from the Port Authority's public tender to numerous public consultations and debates. This process guarantees regulated urban planning content and provides the certainty that the port land will retain its status as public property, avoiding any speculative act in the future. Transparency and participation have been fundamental pillars, underlining the ethical and integral commitment of the project. Furthermore, in relation to the environmental impact, a firm commitment to sustainability stands out, ensuring strict compliance with regulations. This commitment not only implies the preservation of the natural environment, but also a deep respect for the city's valuable cultural heritage. With the support of local and regional authorities, the final approval marks the beginning of an exciting journey towards a more vibrant Malaga and dynamic. The "Port Tower" not only represents an imposing building, but also testimony to the constant evolution that Malaga is experiencing in the 21st century. This architectural landmark becomes a tangible symbol of progress and modernization that defines the future of the city. José Seguí, National Urban Planning Prize, UNESCO Europa Nostra Prize and director and founder of Estudio Seguí, assured that "La 'Torre del Puerto' is the consolidation of the new Port-City remodeling; it is the materialization of the objective of fusing architectural innovation with the identity of the current powerful development of the Port and its city of Malaga. Its design not only seeks its reference to the new profile of the city, but also enrich its social and cultural fabric.
