STATEMENT: Egypt is ready to host a historic COP27

SHARM EL SHEIKH, Egypt, Oct. 28, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- H.E. Sameh Shoukry, Egyptian Foreign Minister and COP27 President-designate, stressed that Egypt is "ready" to welcome world leaders, delegates and climate stakeholders under the banner "Together for Implementation", following a review on the ground of preparations for COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt,

COP27, which kicks off on November 6 and hosts a World Leaders Summit on November 7-8, is expected to be one of the largest gatherings of climate stakeholders ever organized at a COP with more than 30,000 registered delegates. .

Speaking about the preparations for the conference H.E. Shoukry commented: "The Egyptian presidency of COP27 is ready to welcome the global climate community in Sharm El Sheikh this November. As the presidency of COP27, we are doing everything possible to create an environment conducive to successful negotiations and ambitious results, credible and concrete.

"We will set the stage where we expect all state and non-state actors to come together in a collaborative and constructive mindset to deliver on climate action. I am confident that the international community will rise to the occasion and ensure a successful and impactful of COP27. We will continue to urge the international community to make the necessary transformative decisions to respond to the seriousness of the climate emergency we are experiencing".

I KNOW. Shoukry toured the site this week meeting with officials from the UNFCCC and COP27 Presidential Team to oversee the finishing touches on the site ahead of the conference.
