STATEMENT: Huawei Li Peng: Drive a positive 5G business cycle and embrace 5.5G (5G-A)

DUBAI, UAE, Oct. 11, 2023/PRNewswire/ -- Huawei today launched the 14th Global Mobile Broadband Forum in Dubai, UAE. Li Peng, Corporate Senior Vice President of Huawei and President of the company's Carrier BG, delivered a speech at the event. In his speech, Li called on global operators and industry partners to rise to the occasion, cope with growing network demand and make the most of future trends.

"Let's start today, build tomorrow's networks for tomorrow's services, and unleash the infinite potential of 5G for continued success," he said.

In his speech on driving a positive 5G business cycle and 5.5G adoption (5G-A), Li said: "We are already on the path to 5G business success, and 5G-Advanced is the next natural step in the evolution of 5G."

He highlighted that, if we look back in history, all the great economic transformations arose from innovation in general-purpose technologies. "We are now in the digital era, where the Internet drives the digital economy," Li explained in his speech.

"5G is a fundamental part of the new economic transformation," Li continued. "And it is enabling new innovation in general-purpose technologies. For digital industries, 5G is developing rapidly, opening up new markets and opportunities."

According to Li, future mobile networks should have six key features: 10 Gbps downlink, 1 Gbps uplink, deterministic networks, support for one hundred billion IoT connections, integrated sensing and communication, and native AI capabilities. To achieve this, operators and industry players must not only continuously improve their capabilities in three basic usage scenarios - enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB), massive machine type communications (mMTC) and ultra-fast low latency communication (URLLC) - , but also develop three new capabilities, such as uplink-centric broadband communication (UCBC) and real-time broadband communication (RTBC).

Speaking about 5G-Advanced, the next evolutionary step of 5G technology, Li also noted that the industry needs to work together to promote the development of device and application ecosystems, verify use case scenarios, and accelerate large-scale commercialization. from FWA Square, passive IoT and RedCap.

These efforts are crucial to making the most of the five new trends that will shape a smart digital future.

3D sin gafas

The glasses-free 3D industry ecosystem is maturing rapidly. Technological advances such as cloud rendering and real-time 3D virtual people will take the immersive experience to new heights. In the future, more and more devices such as mobile phones and televisions will support glasses-free 3D, increasing data traffic tenfold compared to 2D video.

Self-driving vehicles

By 2025, there will be more than 500 million smart vehicles on the road. With high-bandwidth, low-latency networks, smart vehicles will be able to share information with people, vehicles, roads and the cloud in real time. In assisted driving scenarios, smart vehicles will consume more than 300 gigabytes of data per month for cloud-based model training and weekly algorithm updates. In autonomous driving scenarios, data consumption will increase by 100.

Next generation manufacturing

With advances in capabilities such as network slicing and edge computing, the number of private 5G networks for enterprise use has increased by a hundredfold, and the market size has grown to over $10 billion. However, as production lines become more flexible, increasingly reliant on wireless networks, and more central production systems are deployed in the cloud, greater demands are placed on 5G networks.

Huawei has worked with an operator and industrial partners to build the industry's first 5G-Advanced flexible test production line. For this pipeline, 5G-Advanced supports highly concurrency and highly deterministic network connections, helping to more efficiently connect computing power between the cloud and the network edge.

Widespread cellular IoT

There are more than three billion mobile IoT connections worldwide, and 5G now connects more things than people. In the near future, 5G will support a broader range of IoT technologies, such as mid-speed RedCap and passive IoT. This will provide more options for different IoT scenarios, allowing for a more efficient flow of data, information and computing power. For example, in the appliance manufacturing sector, passive IoT can help provide visibility throughout the entire distribution and production chain, and has contributed to increasing overall productivity by 30% in verification tests.

Smart computing guaranteed everywhere

With the rise of new advancements in AI, such as foundational models, the demand for computing power for AI will see explosive growth. By 2025, this demand is expected to be 100 times higher than current levels. To unleash the full potential of AI computing power, more advanced networking capabilities are critical. Networks will need to have higher bandwidth and lower latency to drive truly intelligent connectivity. Additionally, as traffic patterns change, the networks of the future will need to be more autonomous and intelligent to deliver a reliable experience.

Join us at the 14th Global Mobile Broadband Forum, themed “Making 5.5G a Reality”, taking place from October 10 to 11 in Dubai, UAE. Hosted by Huawei and supported by industry partners GSMA, GTI and the SAMENA Telecommunications Council, the forum promises a deep dive into the successes of 5G, the maturity of the ecosystem, the rapid commercialization of 5G-A/5.5G, and a vision of how mobile broadband technology is shaping the future and transforming the lives of people and industries.
