Barcelona, January 22, 2024.- The bio-pharmaceutical company LETI Pharma has collaborated in the installation of eight state-of-the-art portable defibrillators in the offices of the National Police Corps in Catalonia in order to care for citizens who may suffer cardiac arrest. and avoid sudden deaths.
The defibrillators are located in places highly frequented by citizens, such as in the area where complaints are processed or identification documents are renewed in offices in Girona, Lleida, Tarragona, Sabadell, Terrassa, Reus and in two more offices in Barcelona.
In Spain, around 45,000 sudden deaths occur annually, which is one every 15 minutes, and of these, 70% take place outside the hospital setting, such as homes, gyms or public roads. For this reason, it is important to provide defibrillators in public offices where many citizens go to carry out transactions, such as police stations and document processing offices of the National Police. According to data from the National Police Corps, more than two million people passed through the different police stations in Catalonia last year.
Defibrillators are used in a simple and intuitive way and help recover vital signs after a cardiorespiratory arrest through a brief electrical shock that stops and reverses cardiac arrhythmias, saving the person's life.
In order to thank this collaboration, the National Police presented a plaque to the president of LETI Pharma, Jaime Grego, at an event held at the National Police headquarters in Barcelona.
The installation of the defibrillators is part of a collaboration agreement reached between LETI Pharma and the España Salud Foundation. Among the main objectives is the exchange of knowledge, the organization of study days, publications or research activities around Health Sciences or the promotion of healthy lifestyle habits.
