Leading this initiative are Professor Chris Elliott, founding director of QUB's world-renowned ASSET Technology Centre, and Nick Birse, Professor of Mass Spectrometry at the Institute for Global Food Security and the School of Life Sciences. Its work focuses on improving the detection of contaminants such as mycotoxins and PFAS, leveraging QUB's extensive sample libraries and expertise to set new standards in food safety testing.
Central to their efforts is the MOBIE platform, known for its superior resolution, increased performance and unmatched playability. Nick Birse emphasizes the impact of the platform: "We are excited to be working with MOBILion and Agilent to install the first MOBIE instrument in the UK and the second in Europe. This will significantly enhance our food safety research within the Institute for Global Food Safety, Queen's University Belfast The MOBIE system has been shown to speed up testing by up to 60 times, allowing more samples to be analyzed and increasing the chances of detecting contaminants. Its improved accuracy ensures greater certainty in identifying problems in food and feed.
