Students from 1st year of Baccalaureate and intermediate vocational training degrees, from different public, concerted and private education centers in Andalusia and the Canary Islands have participated from January 20 to 22 in the V Autonomous Session of the European Parliament Model Program in its session autonomous community, organized by the San Patricio Foundation at the national level and the El Centro Inglés school

Cádiz, January 25, 2024.- A total of 19 educational centers, 16 Andalusian and 3 Canarian, participated in this edition of the European Parliament Model organized by the San Patricio Foundation at the national level and the El Centro Inglés school, with the sponsorship of Sodexo, Autocares Moreno, Edelvives and Caja Rural del Sur and the collaboration of the City Council of El Puerto de Santa María, the Provincial Council of Cádiz and the University of Cádiz. It is a reference debate at the regional, national and international level, in which young students work in commissions, carry out debates, proposals, amendments and plenary sessions, and seek consensus on topics of interest, similar to those that occur in the European Parliament. The objective is to foster in them the awareness of European citizenship and the culture of constructive parliamentary discourse to become true parliamentarians for three days. Among the topics that have been debated are the mental health of young people in Europe, the ethics of artificial intelligence , water scarcity and the role of the European Union, and sustainable tourism as a way to promote the local and regional economy. The conclusions of the debates will be presented to the European Parliament. The conference opened on Saturday the 20th in the emblematic historical enclave of the Monasterio de la Victoria, in El Puerto de Santa María, with different political personalities who wanted to be part of this enriching activity. Among them, the Councilor for Education of El Puerto, Enrique Iglesias, the director of El Centro Inglés, David Randell and the president of the Assembly, Biel Scammell. The closing session took place on Monday, January 22, at the Provincial Council of Cádiz with the presence of Juan Ignacio Zoido, MEP assigned to the European Popular Group; Ramón Rodríguez Magán, president of the MEP Board of Trustees, Juan José Ortíz, Vice President I of the Provincial Council of Cádiz, Ignacio Trujillo Provincial Deputy in addition to David Randell and the academic director, María del Mar Grandal, representing El Centro Inglés. As a culmination and celebration in This 5th anniversary, a Solidara Scholarship was drawn, the winner of which was Claudia Moreno Gámez from the IES Heliche in Seville, who has decided to donate the amount of the scholarship to the Alusamen association, an organization that fights for mental health. The director and owner of El Centro Englishman, David Randell, has shown his "deep satisfaction" for holding this event for the fifth consecutive year.
