8 people shot in attacks on West, South sides

A man was shot in his sleep early Tuesday when a bullet crashed through the front window of a Far South Side home, Chicago police said.

He was one of at least eight people wounded in attacks in Chicago on Tuesday, according to police.

The man, 43, was sleeping in the front room of a Roseland residence in the 300 block of West 109th Street around 4:55 a.m. when someone fired a shot outside, police said.

A bullet went through the front window and hit him in the leg, police said.  He was taken to Roseland Community Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

Two 15-year-old boys were shot in the 3600 block of West 62nd Street in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said. One boy was shot in the leg and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in fair condition. The other boy was shot in the foot and was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition. Police did not release information on the circumstances of the shooting.

In other shootings:

  • Around 3:40 p.m., a 27-year-old man was shot several times in the 3900 block of West Monroe Street in the East Garfield Park neighborhood, police said. The man was walking when someone approached and opened fire, police said.  He was taken in critical condition to Loyola University medical center in Maywood.
  • Just before 9 a.m., a man was shot while he was walking down the street in the East Side neighborhood, police said. The 22-year-old was headed down South Avenue J in the 10600 block when he heard two gunshots and was hit in the right leg, above his knee, officials said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and listed in good condition. The victim didn't describe the shooter to police.
  • A 21-year-old man was walking in the 600 block of South Albany Avenue in the Lawndale neighborhood when he was shot in both legs around 9:30 a.m., police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, and his condition was stabilized. The address was originally reported as 3000 block of West Harrison Street, but authorities corrected it.
